Macondo Labs (we, us, our) is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, disclose and safeguard personal information when you visit our website or get in touch with us, and how we comply with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
1. What this policy covers
This policy applies to personal information we collect through this website and through enquiries made to us. Personal information we handle as part of delivering services to a client is governed by the agreement we have with that client and is processed only on their instructions.
2. The information we collect
We only collect personal information that is reasonably necessary for our business. This includes:
- Enquiry details you provide. When you submit our contact form we collect your name, work email address, company name (optional), the nature of your enquiry, and the message you write.
- Technical and security data. To protect the form from automated abuse we process your IP address and a verification token through Cloudflare Turnstile. Our hosting provider may also log standard technical data such as browser type and the pages requested.
We do not ask you for sensitive information (such as health, racial or political information) and ask that you do not include it in your message. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
3. How we collect it
We collect personal information directly from you when you complete the contact form or email us. We collect technical data automatically when you interact with the website. We do not buy personal information from third parties.
4. Why we collect and use it
- To respond to your enquiry and discuss a potential engagement.
- To provide, manage and improve our services and website.
- To protect our website and systems from spam, fraud and abuse.
- To comply with our legal and regulatory obligations.
We rely on your enquiry as your consent to contact you in response. We do not send marketing email unless you have asked us to, and any such message will include a way to unsubscribe.
5. Cookies and analytics
Our website does not set advertising or tracking cookies. Cloudflare Turnstile and our hosting provider may set strictly necessary cookies or process limited technical data to keep the site secure and functioning.
6. Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with trusted service providers who help us operate the website and respond to you, and only to the extent necessary:
- Resend delivers enquiry emails from the contact form to us.
- Cloudflare provides the Turnstile bot-protection service on the form.
- Our hosting provider hosts the website and its server functions.
We may also disclose personal information where required or authorised by law.
7. Overseas disclosure
Some of our service providers store or process data outside Australia, including in the United States and other countries. Where we disclose personal information overseas, we take reasonable steps to ensure it is handled consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.
8. How we store and protect it
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure, including access controls and reputable service providers that use encryption in transit. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. How long we keep it
We keep enquiry information for as long as needed to respond to you and to maintain a record of our business dealings, after which we delete or de-identify it. Where you become a client, related information is retained for the period set out in our engagement with you and as required by law.
10. Accessing and correcting your information
You may request access to the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate, out of date or incomplete. Contact us using the details below. We will respond within a reasonable time and may need to verify your identity first.
